2003 Holiday Party and Ornament Exchange |
|
|
| Date/Time: | 12/14/2003 1:30 - 4:00 | | Type: | General Meeting | | Location: | Glen Ellyn Library | | Teacher: | LMSG-Kathy Joassin |
This is our annual Holiday Party and ornament exchange. Start stitching now on either an ornament or a needlework small to exchange at the meeting. Also, we need volunteers to bring food, sweet and/or savory. If you like, bring copies of the recipe to share with the membership. Highlights We had lots of activities at our December meeting including some important announcements, show and tell, distribution of our holiday ornament kit, the ornament exchange and, of course, lots of food! Leslie Lewis began the meeting with a very important announcement - our meeting place has changed. The library room is no longer available on the days when our meetings are scheduled, so we needed a new location. The board spent a lot of time looking at alternatives and found an excellent and convenient location to meet. The new location is the Sunrise Senior Living facility in Glen Ellyn just north of Health Track. A map, directions and a picture of the building are available on our locations web page. According to Leslie, the facility is very nice and the room that we will meet in has large windows and good lighting which was an important requirement. The facility is located at: Sunrise Senior Living 95 Carlton Ave. Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 We would like to thank the outgoing officers: - Kathy Joassin - 1st Vice President and Program Chair
- Judy Roubick - 2nd Vice President and Membership
- Jan Girolamo - Secretary
- Carol Schaal - Newsletter
And welcome the new officers: - Kathy Bourne - 1st Vice President and Program Chair
- Amy Keaton and Susan Balsai - Vice Program Co-Chairs
- Mary Draniczarek - Membership
- Jane Stevens - Secretary
Carol Schaal has volunteered to continue in office long enough to send out the last printed newsletter in January. At this point, the printed newsletter will be discontinued. The online newsletter will be mailed to anyone who does not have email. Kathy Bourne made some comments about next year's programs. Kathy said that one of our programs, the Mystery Sampler by Joanne Harvey scheduled in October, will "set the sampler world on its ear!". We can't wait to hear more about this program at future meetings. Check out the complete 2004 schedule on this website for more information. Kathy has lined up some exceptional speakers and programs for 2004 so don't forget to renew your membership! | | Click on any of the pictures below to see a larger image. | | Carol Schaal distributed the holiday ornament kit to those who signed up for it. If you didn't make it to the meeting, pick up your kit at the next meeting in January. The kit is very colorful and is based on the mathematical Fibonacci number sequence. For show and tell, Kathy Mical brought two Christmas stockings. She told us that "I found the charts from Shepard's Bush and I loved the embellishments so I decided to do one for each grand daughter. I changed most colors and added some embellishments and stitches of my own. Since I finished the stitching, we discovered that there are two new grand children on the way, so I've got my work cut out for me for the next year!" | | | | | Marilyn Vanover brought a 17th century style sampler on natural linen designed by Meg Shinall. She bought the chart and fabric from a guild member at the annual tag sale this year. Marilyn said that it was a great sampler with about 50 different stitches and that it was lots of fun to stitch. | Marilyn also brought the Garden Spot sampler by Indigo Rose. It was a lovely sampler done in silk on linen. This also was a sampler with a great variety of stitches and many colors. Another sampler is from Indigo Rose is being taught at one of our 2004 workshops. If you like this one, check out our April workshops!. | | | The highlight of our December meeting is always the ornament exchange (and the food!). This year, we had five members who completed ornaments and participated. Everyone enjoyed the exchange and admired the finished products. Thanks to everyone who brought something to eat. We had a big variety of treats and we enjoyed sampling each and every one! | | | | Ornament 1 - Front | | Ornament 1 - Back | | Ornament 2 | | Ornament 3 | | Ornament 4 | | Ornament 5 | | | | | We wish you a happy new year and happy stitching in 2004! Remember to select your own personal 2004 project from your stash and bring it to the January meeting. Hope to see you there! |
