 Create
a spectacular set of sewing accessories featuring the techniques used in stumpwork.
This is a one day workshop designed for the beginner. Each of the four accessories
is decorated with a different pattern. The front of the pinwheel has strawberries
and a heart shaped vine is on the reverse. The scissors fob features a beautiful bachelor
button and the accessory pocket is decorated with acorns. The three-sided thimble
keep opens like a coin purse. Its three sides have elderberries, blackberries and
foxglove. All of the accessories are also decorated with tiny bees, spiders, caterpillars,
and beetles. Many of the historic examples of stumpwork are accented with an assortment
of semi-precious stones. The accessories are decorated with garnets, 14K gold beads,
mother of pearl, carnelian, malachite, citrine, cloisonne and Swarovski crystals The
ground fabric is antique white silk. The kit contains all materials to finish the
four accessories, the various semi-precious stones, scissors for the fob, an artisan
created laying tool and a thimble. The four sewing accessories:
Techniques The techniques emphasized in the class are the various uses of felt for padding and realistic shading. The stitches utilized Backstitch, blanket stitch, bullion, chain stitch, chain stitch whipped, couching, detached buttonhole, detached chain, French knots, feather, fly, long and short needle weaving with open base, Palestrina stitch, pistil, satin, stem, shipped stem, turkey work, wheatear stitch.
