February 19 – Tokens of True Love – Palatine Library, Palatine IL, 1:00 – 3:30 PM
=============================================================================================
Happy Valentine’s Day! Winter is finally upon us. Hope you are staying warm during this cold spell. I was fortunate that my furnace went out the week before it got so cold, since I was without heat for 4 days. Now we are toasty warm again so all is well. Did you enjoy the Zoom lecture with LIanne van Leyen? One of our members mentioned that it gave her a new appreciation of less than perfect samplers, and I agree. Lianne’s design company is located in Canada and is called 1897Schoolhouse Samplers, https://1897schoolhousesamplers.ca/. She has some nice small samplers as freebies, , https://1897schoolhousesamplers.ca/old-home-7/. Soon she will have a list of sampler books on her site, both those she owns and those she hopes to own.

It’s always nice to hear about a new brick and mortar shop opening. Reflections, owned by Julie McConnell, has had a grand reopening in Bellevue , Nebraska. The shop is large and well stocked. Stop by if you are in the Omaha area. https://www.facebook.com/ReflectionsFraming/

Below is a survey monkey link for our 2023 and future program offerings. Your input is greatly valued and appreciated. The survey should take less than 2 minutes to complete (per survey monkey’s estimate). Highlight survey link, then right click and choose “Go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LBCM7QW” or copy and paste into a new tab. Thank you in advance for completing the survey, we want you to enjoy our guild meetings!

“Heart In Hand” is a traditional folk art motif whose imagery is said to represent friendship, love, and truth. Try your hand at recreating this Scherenschnitte hand and heart with decorative elements. We will also have our Valentine Exchange.

February is upon us. I’m anxiously awaiting Groundhog day to see what is in store for us for the rest of the winter. I hope the news is good and we can have our February Valentines meeting. It’s fun to exchange valentines. Exchanging valentine treat and cards is a reminder of valentine treats and cards I had as a child. I hope all of you have happy valentine memories from years past. Let’s make more fun memories at our February meeting.

I just got a new book- Sewing Rolls Needle Rolls and Huswiufs. The pictures are amazing! It is a real ispiration. I’m thinking of trying to dream up a project that our guild could do to stretch and develop our needlework skills. Perhaps suggestions from the Survey monkey Karyn put out can be incorporated into something like a needle roll or a sewing roll. If you haven’t taken a few minutes to fill out the survey, please do so. Your input is so helpful in developing programs.
.
I was fortunate enough to go to the Sampler Symposium in Phoenix. The Attic does a great job of putting programs together. This was the first time I attended the Sampler Symposium- along with 150 of my best friends. The presentations were great, projects varied, and all had skills easy to understand and complete at home whether it would be shortly after the symposium or when the project made it out of the stash/WIP pile. I’ve already completed a few and have high hopes to get to all of them-but not before the February meeting!
.
With the onset of the snow yesterday and today, along with the forecasted very cold weather this coming week, I hope you will find a warm spot and lots of time to stitch. I’m looking forward to seeing what you have completed or have in progress.
